Hope Church Welcomes New Members

These new members were welcomed into the fellowship of Hope Church on May 1, 2016 during the 11 a.m. worship service. Please take the time to welcome these individuals into the family of Hope Church.

Peter and Anne Hoekman join by transfer from River Terrace Christian Reformed Church, East Lansing, MI, but most recently lived in Cincinnati, OH, for five years. Peter is an otolaryngologist in Holland and Anne is a managing editor of academic journals. Their two-year-old son Hendrik will be baptized at Hope Church, and he is an expert on cars, construction equipment, and colors. The Hoekmans enjoy reading, cycling, and walking outside. They are sponsored by Scott and Stephanie Parrott.

Jared and Erica Duimstra join by transfer from Covenant CRC in Appleton, WI and the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, respectively. Both are graduates of Hope College. Jared writes short fiction in his free time, while Erica knits and crochets. Both enjoy reading, watching anime, and playing various types of games. They are excited to be a part of the Hope Church community! They are sponsored by Brian and Carol Carder.

Will and Lisa Walker join by reaffirmation of faith. Will and Lisa have four grown children and one grandson. Will works at his own scrap metal recycling business and enjoys running and gardening in his spare time. Lisa is currently working on getting an MTS degree. She enjoys reading, writing and cooking. The Walkers are sponsored by David DeBlock and Kristen Gray.

Kia and Elizabeth Weeldreyer join by transfer. Kia joins by transfer from Kalamazoo First Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo, MI, and Elizabeth joins by transfer from Chicora Country Chapel in Gobles, MI. Kia works for Meijer as an Internal Auditor, and they both love to travel, have adventures, and experience new things. They are sponsored by Kevin and Kim Rosenau.

David and Rayetta Perez join by transfer from Fellowship Reformed Church in Holland, MI.  David is an engineering technician at Haworth and Rayetta works as executive assistant to the president at Western Theological Seminary.  They enjoy reading, cooking, PBS, walking their wire fox terrier, Molly, and time with family and friends.  The Perez’s son, Dylan (26) is a collaborative pianist studying in London, and daughter, Tessa (24) is a yoga instructor and yoga studio manager in Ann Arbor.  David and Rayetta are sponsored by Mark and Laurie Baron.

Andrew and Carrie Bredow join by reaffirmation of faith, along with their twin daughters, Ellery and Alexis (5). Carrie is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Hope College. Andrew is a Software Developer at Collective Idea. Ellery and Alexis will be starting kindergarten at Waukazoo Elementary this fall. They are sponsored by John and Pam Koch.

Terry DeYoung joins by transfer from Beechwood Reformed Church in Holland, MI which has held his membership since Haven Shores Community Church in West Olive ended its ministry two years ago. Terry is married to Cindi Veldheer DeYoung, a member of Hope Church since before the two of them met at Western Theological Seminary in 1986. Terry is a minister of Word and sacrament and member of Holland Classis who has served the RCA as a pastor, as managing editor of the Church Herald, and currently as coordinator for Disability Concerns. He has been part of the men’s breakfast for nearly 30 years and enjoys traveling, spectator sports, and all things Chicago. He is sponsored by John Schmidt.

Liz Talsma joins by transfer from Faith Reformed Church, Zeeland, MI. Liz lives on the north side of Holland and works as a safety engineer.  She enjoys reading, writing, cooking and baking, and knitting. She is sponsored by Kyle Vohlken.
